Around the World in 60 Cocktails: Rose City

One of the New 7 Wonders of the World, Petra is a 10,000 year-old city carved out of rose-red sandstone hidden deep in the canyons of the desert. Rose takes center stage in our signature Aperol Spritz.

Improbably carved into the pink-hued rock of the Jordanian desert, the ancient city of Petra has been mesmerizing visitors since being rediscovered in 1812. The Treasury, the facade that most people think of when they envision Petra, derives its name from the story that an Egyptian pharaoh hid his treasure here (in the facade urn) while pursuing the Israelites.

While not everyone is lucky enough to visit this destination that has been topping traveller’s wish lists for years, let us transport you there with our floral and easy-to-drink aperitif. The bittersweet flavors of cinchona, orange and rhubarb of the orange-tinged Aperol combine with the red berry and subtle citrus notes of rosé wine to emulate the characteristic pink-hued sandstone of Petra.

Now that’s a real treasure.
